Going Veggie

After careful deliberation, pondering and the fact that a girl I actually quite like encouraged me - I decided to go vegetarian for a month. No fish. No meat. Hell.

I decided to set myself challenges every month of 2011, and combining a food challenged seemed apt. As an avid meat eater, I thought that starving myself of this luxury would be good - interesting - ‘fun' even coupled with the fact that I actually do think that cooks need to be more creative when cooking veggie food - boiled carrots simply done just isn't the same as seared steak.

I researched it, I know I needed to get my protein hit which is so prevalent in meat - but i knew I also had to cook exciting food. I had to create new recipes, new ways of tricking myself that a plate of food didn't need meat!

One week in and it seemed to have worked. Lots of new recipes, some disasters and actually no craving for meat so far. A couple of near misses when I nearly tucked into a prawn cracker, and had to be reminded that I could't actually eat that (apparently 7% shrimp still counts as meat) and the smell of a beckon sarnie after a boozy Saturday night nearly killed me. But I am feeling good, and not as hungry as I thought. 21 days left!
